In an effort to combat the highest levels of obesity the U.S. has ever seen, the ISSA developed the SFN certification to train personal trainers on how to educate their clients about sound nutrition principles.

"There is much confusion in the marketplace about nutrition, indicative of the increasing levels of overweight and obesity, reaching 70% of the US population," reports Dr. Sal Arria, CEO and founder of the ISSA. "The Specialist in Fitness Nutrition curriculum offers the fitness enthusiast and personal trainer a proper education, empowering them to become experts on a topic that raises much doubt and confusion."

In a society with an abundance of diet programs, including the South Beach diet, the Abs diet, Pritikin, Atkins, Liberation Diet, vegetarian or vegan, making a decision on a diet plan is no easy choice.

"Proper diet combined with a professionally designed and monitored fitness plan will help the client achieve their physical fitness and health objectives safely and efficiently. This is exactly why the Specialist in Fitness Nutrition (SFN) program will benefit personal trainers and ultimately the customers," says Dr. Arria.

In addition to the Specialist in Fitness Nutrition (SFN) curriculum, ISSA has six additional fitness education programs, responsible for educating nearly 125,000 personal trainers from over 85 countries. Three of the certification courses include; the Certified Fitness Trainer (CFT) course, which is ISSA's core personal training certification program, the Fitness Therapy (FT) certification for working with post physical therapy clients, the Specialist in Sports Conditioning (SSC) certification to train athletes, and the Specialist in Fitness for Older Adults (SFOA) certification for specialization in working with the aging baby boomer market.
