Decorating the home is sometimes regarded as a routine chore that can be accomplished with several tins of magnolia paint and a trip to the local retail park. Although simplicity is often key to home decorating, some rooms require a little more attention and creativity than others. The bedroom, for instance, is arguably the one room of a home in which interior design is of fundamental importance; whilst the kitchen and living room require their own distinct styles, the bedroom ought to connect with homeowners at an altogether more intimate level. As such, bedroom interior design should not be taken lightly.

The interior design of a bedroom must establish some kind of unity with the intended occupant; for example, the design of a typical five-year-old girl's bedroom might comprise large helpings of pink alongside colourful fabrics, imaginative designs and accessible furniture. Identifying what works for the individual is pivotal to the success of a bedroom interior design. In respect to walls, colour is obviously the most important consideration. Generally speaking, light, pastel colours work well in relatively small bedrooms because they can give the impression of greater space, whereas darker tones and patterned wallpapers can achieve the opposite effect where space - especially ceiling height - is in abundance.

Arguably the most important aspect of bedroom interior design is the choice of bed, mattress and duvet cover. Luxury beds can range from sturdy wooden frames to comfortable divans. The key to choosing the most appropriate luxury bed is in deciding what kind of style best suits the individual; once a particular type of luxury bed is chosen, the design of the bedroom can, at least to an extent, be shaped around this important focal point. Replacing an old mattress with one that has a little more spring in it can also provide the user with added comfort and support - choosing a mattress with memory foam is particularly advantageous in so far as it moulds to the shape of a person (or people) and offers more stable support.
